Peel and cube sweet potatoes into 1/2-inch pieces.

Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.

Saute onion until softened, about 4 minutes.

Add chili powder and cumin, cook 1 minute.

Add sweet potatoes, black beans, and canned tomatoes.

Add 1 cup water and bring to a boil.
